Imagetrope1 is a demonstration of a new method to browse sequences of images. These images can be a photo album, contents of a directory in computer filesystems, frames or keyframes of video, menu items, etc.
This demo acts as a proof of concept. All images are the same, but the next version will have different images per frame. The final product will show images from local iPhone filmrolls or search results, or any other dynamically produced sequence of images.
It is a novel and fun way to browse images.
Advantages are:
1. Able to depict a long sequence of images in a small area, with the sequence being very clear.
2. Intuitive browsing of images without discontinuities at the edges of the screen.
3. Intuitive and simple metaphor of (double) vortex and film roll. (We found the way to store more efficiently a long sequence of images with film rolls and reels, why not using this for browsing them? Nature also uses spiral-like structures to store a long animal: nautilus, snail, etc.)
4. Intuitive vortex-like animation - we are well aware of the way water goes down the drain!
5. Display of images which are not overlapping or are only slightly overlapping.
